According to the 2016 White Paper on China's Pet Industry released this year, the post-80s and post-90s account for 6.5 percent of pet consumers, and the post-80s account for nearly 50 percent of pet consumers.
 
According to the white paper, China's pet users are roughly divided into the 80 s, the 90 s, the 70 s, and the 50/60 s of rational consumption. Among them, the post-80s consumer group accounts for 48.4 per cent of the total, with a large advantage to become a high consumption capacity of the pet group. As the mainstay, the post-80s and post-90s account for 65% of the total. With the increase of age and income in the future, the post-90s group will gradually stabilize their lives. This proportion may further increase and their consumption potential will be greater. The survey shows that pet owners shop 1-3 times a month for their pets, with an average monthly consumption close to 500 yuan. The main categories purchased are pet food and supplies. Among them, more than 30% spend more than 1000 yuan per year. From the perspective of consumption of all ages, the post-80s love to buy medical and health products, and the post-90s love to buy supplies and services.
 
The white paper also shows that China's pet industry has entered a period of rapid development, the market size will exceed 200 billion yuan in 2020, the brand awareness of consumers is gradually increasing, and the pet industry is about to usher in a "blowout era". From 2010 to 2014, the average annual growth rate of China's pet industry reached 50.7. In 2015, the market size of China's pet industry reached about 97.8 billion yuan. It is predicted that by 2020, it will maintain an average annual high-speed development of 32.8, and is expected to break through the 200 billion yuan mark.
